Sonnet II: Tacoma – “The City of Destiny”
by Ashley C. Goff
The harshest mirror, the city,
our heart will show.
Reveal the foreign pavement o’er
soul was lain.
Let Head lead Moral astray, blind
to those low
In filth. Walls tell their story in paint and pain.
You told me where it hurt, but I forgot,
Attention cast elsewhere, it
slip’d my mind.
Just leave Destiny in damp gutter
to rot.
She craves love of those who left
her behind.
Yet, Day of Reckoning be near at
hand,
And Peace and Hope and Love be
here realized.
Vile face to Light lifted, from
dust she stand,
With Love to rival the great sea
tide, baptized.
She
will be loved when they have gone away,
Winged
crow, bring Belov’d back, never again to stray.
Beautiful!
